It’s always good during a given cross country season to have the chance to run on the course where state meet competition will be staged.

Ripley received that opportunity by running in the prestigious St. Mary’s Medical Center XC Festival at Cabell Midland High School.

The challenging Chris Parsons Course is where the best of the best will be at the season’s end to run for championships and All-State honors.

Ripley’s girls team had a great showing in the Class AAA division by placing third with 71 points. The Lady Vikings trailed only Hurricane (36) and Preston (62).

Had it been the state meet, both Ellie Hosaflook and Haleigh McCune would have, in fact, earned All-State recognition. The two finished in the Top 10.

Hosaflook, a returning All-Stater, led the way by coming in third with a time of 20:23.

McCune was ninth with a clocking of 21:35.

In addition to the Top 10 finishes, Ripley had a pair of runners place in the Top 20. Opal Huffman finished 16th (22:14) while Tori Fisher wasn’t far behind in 18th (22:19).

Emily Dunlap and Corbin Casto rounded out Ripley’s running attack with placings of 28th (23:58) and 40th (25:35), respectively.

In the boys race, Max Meadows paced Ripley by coming in 16th (18:07).

Davin Rose was 46th (21:22), Cole Neal was 52nd (22:07), Oliver Marks was 60th (24:09) and Trey Greer placed 64th (26:41).

Ripley was ninth as a team with 238 points.

Wheeling Park (31) and Beckley Woodrow Wilson (73) placed first and second in the team standings.
