Lady Viking softball team defeats Cabell Midland in regional

The Class AAA Region IV Girls Softball Tournament saw Ripley take game one on Monday evening.

Ken Swisher’s Lady Vikings handed the Lady Knights a 4-1 setback.

Ripley started strong with two runs in the bottom of the first inning at Lady Viking Park and never looked back in registering the win.

Ripley plated a third run in the last of the second to take a 3-0 advantage.

Cabell Midland got its lone run in the top of the fourth.

Ripley added its fourth run in the fifth.

Chloe Shinn pitched all seven innings for Ripley. She allowed just three hits while striking out three and walking two. The lone CM run was earned.

Grace Walsh had a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, drilling both a home run and triple.

Kaitlyn Swisher also had two hits, including a double. Swisher scored two of Ripley’s four runs.

Elli Hershey had a double that drove home two of Ripley’s runs.

Cassidy Cummings had a hit and RBI.

Sidney Varney singled for the Lady Vikings.

Ripley was scheduled to play at Midland on Tuesday. A win gave the Lady Vikings the Region IV crown and berth in next week’s State Tournament in South Charleston.

Midland needed a win Tuesday to force a third and decisive game.
