Devilettes and Devils both place sixth in Class A Region IV meet

Regional competition for high school track and field was last week, and first out of the gates were Class A teams.

And that included Ravenswood.

Both the Devilettes and Red Devils were a part of the Class A Region IV Meet which unfolded at Parkersburg’s Stadium Field.

The Devilettes placed sixth as a team by scoring 38 points.

The Devils scored 22 in the boys division to also land in the number six position of the team scoring.

The Devilette girls 4x400 meter relay team took first place in a time of 5:09.41.

Junior Haley Ward, freshman Lauren Raynes, sophomore Morgan Smith and freshman Maci Mosser made up the winning relay squad.

Placing second for Ravenswood was Mosser in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:40.85.

Raynes was third in the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 59.99.

Ravenswood’s 4x200 unit of Ward, Smith, Mosser and Raynes was third. They were clocked at 2:12.67.

Also placing third was the shuttle hurdle squad with a time of 1:30.13. Ward sophomore Ciara Hines, Mosser and Raynes made up the foursome.

Junior Marissa Smith was sixth in the discus with a throw of 66-09. Hines also placed sixth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 1:06.91.

Winning the girls team title was Buffalo with 140 points. Sherman scored 115 for second.

Calhoun had 46 with Tolsia and Wirt County next in line by scoring 45 each.

Behind Ravenswood was Wahama with 34. Gilmer County scored 16 and Hannan had 12.

Sophomore Cade Curfman placed third in the boys 800 meter run with a time of 2:16.33.

Two Devil relay teams placed third.

The 4x400 unit of Curfman, sophomore Blair Anderson, sophomore Brandon Haynes and freshman Davy Ramsey turned in a time of 4:08.66.

The 4x800 squad had a time of 9:52.63. The unit consisted of Anderson, Curfman, Haynes and Ramsey.

Haynes was clocked at 58.05 in the 400 meters to earn fourth place.

Buffalo also won the boys division with 183. Sherman placed second by scoring 98.

Wirt County finished third in the meet with 83 followed by Wahama with 76. Gilmer County ended with 25. Behind Ravenswood were Tolsia with 20 and Calhoun with five.

The Class A portion of the State Meet is scheduled for June 8 (3200 meters and 400 meters) and June 9 at University of Charleston Stadium/Laidley Field in Charleston.
