Ripley's Lady Viking softball squad registers shutout win to begin postseason play

Hurricane, a winner of five consecutive Class AAA girls softball state championships, was no match for Ripley in a Region IV, Section 2 Tournament opener.

The Lady Vikings won the game in five innings, 8-0.

Ripley outhit Hurricane, 12-3.

The Lady Vikings plated two runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back in taking the initial step toward a possible berth in the state tournament.

Ripley would add two more in the third and three runs in the fourth.

The eighth and decisive run came in the bottom of the fifth.

Chloe Shinn pitched all five innings for Ripley. The senior struck out five and walked one while giving up the three hits.

Kaitlyn Swisher had a big game at the plate with three hits, including a double.

Kristabelle Carte went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and drove home four runs.

Kyra Winter had two hits and drove home a run. Sidney Varney also collected a pair of base hits.

Cassidy Cummings, Elli Hershey and  McKenna Hall each had one hit.

Hershey also drove home a run.

Aaliyah Baldwin was also credited with one RBI.
