RMS Vikings defeat Demons in football showdown

The season came to a close on October 22 for both football teams at Ravenswood Middle and Ripley Middle.

And it was Ripley winning the season-ending showdown between the two Jackson County rivals by a final of 46-7 on the turf of Flinn Field at Spano-Taylor Stadium.

“Our defense was outstanding, the varsity did not give up a single first down in the game,” said Ripley head coach Dwayne Merritt. “The entire defensive unit including second-teamers played very well together.

Merritt applauded the play on the prevent unit of Michael Vaughn, Sam Varney, Noah Hall, Zander Stalnaker, Chris Patterson, Cooper Merritt, Tyson Pritt, Garrett Brown, Noah Casto, Ethan Kay, Isaac Creel, Chris Jenkins, Peyton Sloan, and Cameron Good.

He also praised his offensive line for helping lead to lots of offensive production in the game.

Casto led the way with two rushing touchdowns, a pair of 2-point conversions, and a TD pass.

Also scoring for Ripley, according to Merritt, were Sloan (one TD), Creel (one TD reception), Varney (one TD), Jenkins (a pair of 2-point conversions), Kay (a 2-point conversion), and Michael Vaughn (a 2-point conversion).

Ripley finished the season at 4-1.
