Hosaflook and Pepper earn Cross Country All-State honors
Ripley High School’s cross country program returned to the campus Saturday evening with not one, but two Class AAA All-State runners.
Both freshman Ellie Hosaflook and junior Chase Pepper earned the honor by placing in the Top 10 at the West Virginia State Meet in Ona at Cabell Midland High School’s Chris Parsons Course.
Hosaflook wrapped up an amazing freshman season by running the course in a time of 18:51, which was good for third place. She finished behind a pair of Morgantown runners in sophomore Irene Riggs(17:59) and junior Lea Hatcher (18:28).
Hosaflook helped lead Ripley, under the direction of head coach Hilary Groves and assistants Jimmy Groves and Bryan Thompson, to a fifth-place finish overall as a team with 144 points.
Freshman Opal Huffman placed 20th in a time of 20:57 for the Lady Vikings. Senior Jadyn Casto was 41st in a time of 21:50. Emma Shockey was 47th with a time of 22:07. Haleigh McCune placed 50th in a time of 22:17. Tori Fisher was 54th in a time of 22:39.
Morgantown won the Class AAA state championship with 35 points. University was the runner-up with 69. Beckley was third with 119. Preston was fourth with 129.
Pepper, a junior, completed the course in a time of 16:41 to place ninth and garner the All-State recognition.
Teammate Max Meadows, a freshman, was 37th in a time of 17:54.
