Red Devil runners compete in Huntington; Ravenswood Middle girls win title
Ravenswood’s varsity runners were in Huntington last weekend for the Huntington/Wayne XC Invitational.
The girls' team finished seventh with 168 points.
Freshman Emily Wratchford led the way by placing 10th in a time of 21:32. Hadleigh McGoskey followed by finishing 14th in a time of 21:58.
Brooke Meadows was 35th (24:40), Madisyn Whited placed 47th (26:20) and Olivia Long was 78th (36:19).
“It was a great day to race on the regional course and we were pleased with the efforts of our kids,” veteran head coach Bryan Canterbury said. “The girls were ranked 7th in Class A, it’s the first time our girls' program has been ranked since 2013 and that is exciting.
“They are a very young team as every runner was only competing in their second varsity race. We also ran without Maci Mosser and Taylor Heath. Emily ran a strong race to earn a Top 10 place against some top AAA and AA teams. Hadleigh, Brooke, Madisyn, and Oliva all improved.
In the boys' division, Cade Curfman was 15th with a time of 18:12. Houston Kessell was 57th with a 21:30 clocking.
“Cade ran a good race to get a Top 15 finish. We hope to get back to full strength soon and we have a big upside,” said Canterbury.
In the middle school division, it was simply the Life of Riley for Ravenswood.
Riley Sotomayor picked up her first career win in a time of 12:45 to help Brian Schirmer’s girls' team win the title among a field of eight teams.
Riley Curfman was 11th for Ravenswood in a time of 14:00.
Kadi Price, Gwynn Gorrell, and McKenzie Nesselroad all earned Top 20 finishes. Price was 13th (14:09), Gorrell placed 14th (14:13) and Nesselroad was 17th (14:27).
Also competing for Ravenswood were Briana Sotomayor (34th, 16:04) and Ryley Thompson (62nd, 18:10).
The boys' division also consisted of eight teams with Ravenswood finishing fourth.
Max Dauch was the top finisher, placing eighth in a time of 12:38. Bailey Postlethwait was 10th with a time of 12:45.
Riker Postlethwait was 18th in a time of 13:04 and Marcus Wiliams came in 20th at 13:16.
Tucker Gorrell was 32nd (13:52) and Wyatt Nickerson finished 37th (14:10).
