WV State Am will include Easthom
After a good showing in the West Virginia Open earlier this month on the Cobb Course of The Resort at Glade Springs, Ravenswood’s Alex Easthom is hoping for bigger and better things in the West Virginia State Amatuer.
The State Am is set for July 28-31 on the Meadows Course at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs.
Easthom punched his ticket to the 101st edition of the event in a qualifier at Edgewood Country Club on Wednesday.
Easthom fired a 1-under-72 on the day to finish second in the qualifier.
Easthom and medalist Jackson Hill of Daniels in Raleigh County were the only two golfers to shoot under par on Wednesday. Hill was 4-under with a 67.
Mike Keiffer finished at even par.
Two more qualifiers are slated before the State Am. Those will take place at the Locust Hill Golf Course in Charles Town July 16 and Huntington’s Guyan Golf and Country Club July 21.
Easthom finished in tie for 27th at the Open with professional and former champ (1997 and 1999) John Ross.
The State Open features both amateurs and professionals.
Easthom, who will be entering his third year of golf at West Liberty State University, and Ross each ended with a three-day total of 224 (8-over-par).
Easthom had rounds of 73, 74 and 77 on the par-72 layout.
