Jackson County school board vacancy to be filled

There is currently a vacancy on the Jackson County Board of Education. West Virginia Code 18-5-2 authorizes the Board of Education to appoint an individual to fill this unexpired term. The individual appointed to fill this vacancy will serve through June 30, 2022. The remainder of the unexpired term will be filled based on the results of an election to be held during the primary election of May 2022. The individual elected to serve the remainder of the term will serve from July 1, 2022-June 30, 2024.

The Jackson County Board of Education is currently accepting letters of interest and resumes from individuals who wish to be considered for the vacancy. Due to the legal restriction limiting the membership of the school board to two members per magisterial district, only citizens and residents of the eastern and western magisterial districts may be considered for the vacancy.

Qualifications, as per WV Code:

  • Be a citizen and resident of Jackson County.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • May not engage in political activities as outlined in West Virginia Code 18-5-1a.
  • May not be a current employee of the Jackson County Board of Education.
