Five places in Jackson County serving up military deals in honor of Veterans Day
Ripley's streets are lined with American flags every day of the year, but on Veterans Day the town oozes patriotism. Aside from the annual parade and events on the courthouse lawn, local businesses and organizations are doing their part to say thank you to all who have served in the military.
Here's a list of five places veterans can get a discounted or free meal on Veterans Day right here in Jackson County.
Baked steak awaits at the Ripley VFW
For as long as Allen Getrick, quartermaster of the Ripley Veterans of Foreign Wars post, can remember, his post has always served complimentary dinners to anyone who has ever worn a military uniform, and their family, on Veterans Day.
"If you wore the uniform, you're welcome," Getrick said.
This year the menu is filled with juicy baked steaks, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and countless desserts for all sweet tooths to enjoy. Getrick said the post is preparing to serve 200 dinners. If veterans can't make it to the Ripley VFW at 789 Parkersburg Road, they can call (304) 372-3013 and have their meal delivered.
The dinner will begin at 2 p.m. and will last until the food runs out.
Fuel up with Brews for the Brave
All active and retired military members, law enforcement, fire and emergency medical service members can get a free drink of their choice Wednesday and Thursday at Hallowbeans in Ripley located at 516 W. Main Street.
Hallowbeans is open Wednesday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dairy Queen sweet treats
Ripley's Dairy Queen located at 241 S. Church Street is honoring veterans with 50% off all orders on Veterans Day.
Discounts will be taken once a veteran ID is shown. Dairy Queen is open Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Get a boatload of fries at the Yacht Club
