Diane DeWees, the Evans location manager, said the store has been busy ever since it opened Oct. 26.

EVANS  Jackson County just welcomed its fourth Dollar General and Evans residents are thrilled to see the bright yellow sign.

Dollar General located at 96 Evansview Road has been open for a week shoppers and employees wear smiles while walking up and down the shop's 20 isles of everything from groceries to home decor because of the convenience it creates for Evans residents.

"It's something that's been needed," store manager Diane DeWees said. "It's going to be more convenient for people to not have to go all the way into town."

According to a press release from Dollar General, the store is expected to generate six to 10 jobs depending on the demand. DeWees said there are currently seven employees and the starting rate for cashiers is $8.75.

The store is also giving back to the community. The release said that Dollar General will donate 100 books to a local elementary school.

The Evans location will also allow schools, nonprofits and libraries within a 15-mile radius to apply for grants through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The foundation, which has been around since 1993, has awarded $203 million in grants to organizations.

“At Dollar General, we believe the addition of each new store provides positive economic growth for the communities we proudly serve," Dan Nieser, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development, said in the release. “We look forward to welcoming customers to our new store and hope they will enjoy shopping at our new location.”

The new location is open every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. This is Jackson County's fourth Dollar General, with one being in Millwood, Ravenswood and another located in Fairplain.
