Two people were arrested Sunday night in Mason County and charged with the delivery of a controlled substance resulting in death about six weeks after a Ravenswood man died from a drug overdose.

Kristina McCue, of Cottageville, was arrested in Mason County on Sunday.

The two suspects — Kristina McCue and Damen Morgan, both of Cottageville — were linked to a fentanyl-related death in Ravenswood on May 9, Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger said.

Damen Morgan, of Cottageville, was arrested in Morgan County on Sunday.

Mason County, Jackson County and Point Pleasant law enforcement, and the U.S. Marshal Service helped with the arrests. Both individuals are facing the same felony charge and were taken to Western Regional Jail in Mason County, Mellinger said.

There have been five deaths in Jackson County in the past 30 days, which is "high" for the area, Mellinger said.

"We're sort of experiencing one of the peak times right now," Mellinger said.

He said drug activity tends to speed up at the beginning of the month and shortly after people receive large sums of money like stimulus checks or tax returns.
