It was a late start for high school golf in West Virginia due to COVID-19.

But teams are now off and running trying to get in as many matches as possible.

Ravenswood’s golf team has been busy with three so far, including the Little Kanawha Conference Invitational.

Kevin McClung’s three-man crew took part in that event on the grounds of North Bend State Park.

The Devils had a team total 216.

Cameron Taylor, a junior, led the way with a 94.

Fellow junior Jacob Coberly shot a 102.

Sophomore Mason Freeman had a 140.

“It was a good chance for the kids to help each other out,” said McClung, who is in his third season as Ravenswood High School’s head golf coach.

Other teams competing were Wirt County, Ritchie County, St. Marys, Williamstown, Roane County, Calhoun County, Wahama, Braxton County and Gilmer County.
