The 87th annual West Virginia Open Championship golf tournament will be staged next week on The Resort at Glade Springs’ Cobb Course. The Resort at Glade Springs is located just a few miles from Beckley in Daniels.

The 54-hole affair will be played out July 23-25 featuring both professionals and amateurs.

Those who have yet to earn their way into the prestigious event, administered by the West Virginia Golf Association, will have one last opportunity to do so tomorrow (Wednesday).

And the place to try and make it happen is Jackson County’s very own Greenhills County Club.

Head pro Warren Root and his staff will be hosting the Last Chance Qualifier for this year’s Open.

Greenhills is the final stop among six qualifying venues for the this 87th annual Open.

The Pines Country Club in Morgantown, Riverside Country Club in Mason, Hurricane’s Sleepy Hollow Golf Club, Cacapon Resort State Park in Berkeley Springs and the Cobb Course have also hosted qualifiers dating back to late May.

With the exception of 1959, the West Virginia Open has been played every year since 1933.

Golfing great Sam Snead won the Open a record 17 times.

David Bradshaw is the four-time defending champion. Bradshaw has captured 11 Open titles.
