Ravenswood's own Alex Easthom was recently named to the PING/NCAA Division II All-Atlantic Region Men's Gold Team, making this his second consecutive year earning the All-Region Honor.
A former Ravenswood High School golf standout, Easthom took his golfing talent on to West Liberty University where he continued to shine on the green.
As a college freshman, he captured the title of Mountain East Conference (MEC) Freshman of the Year with a 74.2 scoring average in five rounds of MEC play.
Easthom, currently in his sophomore year at West Liberty University, was one of 106 players chosen by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) from within the eight NCAA Division II regions.
“It's a great honor to win this for the second year in a row,” Easthom said. “I was quite surprised they even had the All-Region teams due to COVID-19.”
A leader for Coach Mike Ricci's Hilltoppers, Easthom said he was excited to get the call.
“When I got word from Coach Ricci that I had made it again, I was pleasantly surprised,” Easthom said. “I could not have done it without my coaches and teammates constantly pushing me, and my community behind me the entire way.”
Despite the shortened season, Easthom said COVID-19 has actually had little effect on him.
“I had to miss the remainder of my sophomore season,” Easthom said. “But thankfully the NCAA is granting it back!”
