Head coach John Kennedy’s Lady Vikings are off to a great start with wins over Riverside on Nov. 30.
The JV team blew the Warriors away with a final score of 54 to 16. Haleigh McCune took the lead for the Lady Vikings with 13 of the 54 points scored. Jaelyn Hunt was not too far behind with a total of 9 and Grace Walsh followed with 8.
Kennedy said the team’s varsity leaders did well stepping into their roles during the games.
“Due to injuries, we were playing with 11 girls total between JV and varsity,” Kennedy said. “I had to use varsity players in order to keep the JV game going. They really stepped up and took the younger girls under their wing.”
The Varsity team didn’t disappoint either.
Leading the way was senior Tessa Ray, who scored 17 points and 6 rebounds to assist in the 49 to 39 victory over the Warriors. Lauren Roush banked 11 points, 3 steals, and 5 assists, and Taylor Kennedy added 10 points, 3 steals, and 2 assists to the mix.
“I believe this was a positive experience all around,” Kennedy said. “They all put forth a great effort and played exceptionally well as a team. I couldn’t be more proud.”
