EASTWOOD – Junior shortstop Skylar Mace launched a pair of home runs to lead Ravenswood to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Calhoun County Thursday at Eastwood. The Devilettes (5-3) rallied from a 4-0 deficit and then held on for a 9-8 win in the opening game.
Down 4-0 after one-half inning, Coach Cindy Carmichael’s gals scored three runs in the bottom of the first, added three more in the bottom of the third for a 6-4 lead and tacked on three more in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-4 advantage. The Devilettes held off a Calhoun four-run rally in the top of the seventh to eke out the 9-8 win.
Jayla Sayre got the pitching win, going the distance with three strikeouts, three walks and 10 hits allowed. Torrennce Carpenter took the loss for Calhoun, fanning one, walking one and allowing 14 hits over six innings.
In addition to Mace’s two homers, three RBI game, Claudia Cubides collected a double, single and RBI for the Devilettes. Bayli Manns (RBI), Rylin Tabor (RBI) and Jayla Sayre (RBI) added two singles each; and Ashley Johnson (2 RBIs), Kendall Bowen, Macey Manns and Sidney Smith, one single each.
Madison Dennis (3 RBIs) and Katie Jones (double, 2 RBIs) collected a pair of hits each for Calhoun.
Devilette freshman Rylin Tabor tossed four innings with four strikeouts, two walks and eight hits allowed to capture the mound win in the nightcap—a 15-5, five-inning, mercy-rule win. Kendall Bowen came on in relief to throw the final inning.
Claudia Cubides went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs to lead the Devilettes at the plate. Kendall Bowen also went 3-for4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Rylin Tabor was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs; and Jayla Sayre, 2-for-4 with an RBI. Ashley Johnson added a double and three RBIs in three trips to the plate; Bayli Manns, a single and two RBIs in three trips; and Skylar Mace, Sidney Smith and Jala Smith, one single each.
Whitney Stevens had a homer and three RBIs to pace Calhoun. Tori Allen added two singles and an RBI; and Brogan Richards, two singles for the Lady Red Devils.
