BUCKHANNON –  Ripley alum Luke Layhew was selected as the Mountain East Conference Freshman of the Year in Men’s Basketball for his performance during his rookie campaign with West Virginia Wesleyan. 

Layhew, who finished his Viking career as the school’s all-time leader in blocked shots and rebounds, averaged 12.1 points and 7 rebounds per game this season, while also leading the MEC in field goal percentage, making close to 64% of his shots.  

Layhew was a two time Class AAA All-State selection while at Ripley High School.
