RIPLEY –  Tuesday night’s Class AAA Region 4, Section 1 match in Death Valley between the Ripley Vikings and the Parkersburg South Patriots had the feel of their meeting the previous Tuesday night.  And for good reason.  The scoreboard Tuesday night showed the same score as that contest, a 6-0 win for the Vikings.  Sam Pierson’s five goals (four in the  first half) powered the Vikings to the win, as head coach Tim Ross’ squad was never threatened and dominated in all phases of the game.

Pierson opened the scoring at the 34:26 mark of the first half and rolled from there; he struck again at the 24:01 mark, the 14:10 mark and the 9:22 mark to singlehandedly send the Vikings into the halftime break up 4-0.

With the game well in hand in the second half, the Vikings continued to press their advantage.

Pierson scored his fifth goal at the 30:48 mark of the second half, with the scoring capped off by senior Gage Williams at the 4:58 mark of the period.

In all, the Vikings outshot the Patriots 27-6.  Goalkeeper Chris Neil made two saves, while Austin Young made one.

Senior Trevor Kessell added two assists, as did sophomore Kaegan Jackson, while junior Ryan Shatto also added an assist.

The win sends the Vikings into tonight’s sectional championship match against Parkersburg at Parkersburg.

The Big Reds defeated the Vikings 3-1 in their only regular season meeting back on September 1 in Death Valley.

Kick-off from Stadium Field in Parkersburg is set for 8:00 p.m.
