RIPLEY – Head coach Tim Ross’s Class AAA No. 6 Ripley Vikings were in a party mood on Thursday night as the Vikings dominated the visiting Ravenswood Red Devils of head coach Todd R. Murray, 9-0.

Death Valley served as the setting for Senior Night and the 25th Anniversary celebration of the boys soccer program at Ripley High School and the Vikings were certainly equal to the backdrop.  They controlled possession and pace of play from the outset, developing scoring chance after scoring chance throughout the game.

The Vikings put up four goals in the first half and piled on five more in the second to come away with the win.

“We worked and possessed the ball very well,” Ross said, “[Our players] executed things that we needed to correct, Coach Boyce and I are very pleased.”

Senior Cliff Kay got the scoring started, finishing a cross from fellow senior Enzo Garani to put Ripley up 1-0 at the 35:45 mark of the first half.  Freshman Broedy Boyce struck next, putting home a shot at the 20:17 mark.

Senior Justin Fields scored next at the 11:42 mark, then junior Sam Pierson capped off the scoring with a goal at the 4:20 mark to send the Vikings into the halftime break with a 4-0 lead.

In the second, the Vikings continued to pile up the scoring chances.  Pierson notched a hat trick with two quick goals early in the half, registering his second goal at the 32:17 mark and his third seconds later at the 31:13 mark.

Up 6-0, the Vikings got three more goals: one from Davisson Flint at the 28:55 mark; one from senior Elijah Randolph at the 22:34 mark; and the last from senior Remy Boyce at the 20:53 mark to close out the 9-0 win.

The Vikings outshot the Devils 43 to 5 on the night, with Kay picking up two assists to go with his goal.  Garani, Pierson, Flint and both Boyces also added assists for the Vikings.  Goalkeeper Austin Young was barely troubled on the night, not having to stop any of the Red Devil shots.

The win moved Ripley to 13-5-2, while the loss dropped Ravenswood to 5-10-4.

Both teams began sectional play this week, with the Vikings playing at home on Tuesday night against Parkersburg South at 8:00 p.m.

The Devils beat Trinity, 4-1 on Saturday to wrap up their regular season with a 6-10-4 record.

Jake Hendricks, Mike Miller, Anthony Boggs and Colton Clark score done goal each in the game. Hendricks and Clark notched assists.

The Red Devils (#5-seed) opened sectional tournament play at Point Pleasant last night (Monday), taking on the host #4-seed Big Blacks.

The winners play 3-seed Nitro today (Tuesday). In other games, #2 seed Williamstown plays St. Marys (#7 seed) and #3 seed Sissonville plays #6 seed Parkersburg Catholic.
