CHARLESTON – Head coach Tim Ross’ Ripley Viking boys soccer team ran into a buzzsaw on Tuesday night in Charleston, falling to Class AAA No. 1 George Washington, 7-2.
The Vikings managed to hang with the Patriots in the first half, with junior Sam Pierson scoring off an assist from senior Remy Boyce to tie the game at 1-1.
However, GW would score twice more to take 3-1 halftime advantage.
In the second half, the Patriots turned on the after-burners. They scored four goals to Ripley’s one, registered to junior Ryan Shatto off another assist from Boyce.
The Patriots outshot the Vikings 22 to 13, with Ripley using both of their goalkeepers.
Austin Young stopped 11 shots, while Chris Neil stopped two.
The loss dropped Ripley to 9-5-1 on the season. They return to action tonight at home against Nitro at 6:30 p.m.
