RAVENSWOOD – One thing was for certain in Ravenswood’s 80-52 win over Roane County in the Class AA, Region 1, Section 2 semifinal Wednesday night and that is the Devils assured themselves of at least two more games this season.
The hope is to gain three additional ones along the way at the State Tournament.
The victory – Ravenswood’s third of the season against the Raiders and second in the span of a week – sent them on to the Region 1, Section 2 championship game last night (Friday) at Webster against the Highlanders.
Riley Heatherington exploded for 34 points in the win, going 12-of-17 from the field (with a trio of 3-pointers) and hitting all seven of his free throw attempts. Heatherington also had eight rebounds and three blocks.
Isaiah Morgan scored 21 in the win and pulled down seven boards. Jayden Rhodes was 5-of-7 from the field and finished with 12.
Hayden Mandrake scored five points, Stephen Dawson finished with four, Blake Bennett had two and Lakin Tucker scored two.
Dawson also had seven rebounds in the win. He shared top steal honors with Heatherington with three. He aided Heatherington in the block department with two.
Mandrake was the team leader in assists with six.
Ravenswood cruised to a 30-19 advantage after the first quarter and never looked back. The Devils outscored Roane in each of the final three quarters (16-10, 18-13 and 16-10), as well.
As a team, Ravenswood shot 61 percent from the floor, including 10 from the 3-point line. The Devils were 16-of-19 at the free throw line.
Kaleb Greathouse was Roane’s top scorer with 20.
A win over Webster will bring the Devils back home this coming Thursday for a showdown against the loser of the Fairmont Sr./East Fairmont game.
A loss would put them on the road against the winner of that crosstown rivalry.
The West Virginia High School Boys State Basketball Tournament is set for March 16-19 at the Charleston Civic Center Coliseum.
