Brothers and sisters, what is the strongest muscle in the human body? Some may say it's the tongue, but it's hard to determine which muscle is the most powerful because muscles don't work alone.

But we do know that the tongue is strong and mighty. For a small muscle, it can do a lot of damage. This active little muscular organ that helps us eat, swallow, taste, and begin digestion has a tendency to also assist us in saying things we shouldn't. The tongue is guilty of flattery, cursing, lying, boasting, and harming others. And that's just the short list.

It sounds like a pretty dangerous muscle, doesn't it, boys and girls? But here's the good thing: it doesn't have to be that way. When we are controlled by the Holy Spirit, our tongues can be turned to great good. We can speak of God's righteousness and justice. We can speak truth, show love, and confess sin.

The tongue of the wise brings healing. Imagine how we could glorify the One who made our tongues when He helps us use it to bring healing - not harm - to everyone we talk to. We cannot afford to "turn away our ears," even when our critics are immature, ignorant, or evil. Remember, if God spoke through Balaam's donkey (read Numbers 22:28), He can speak through anyone. Be mindful to keep your ears open to God's voice, regardless of the form it may come in. Amen.

Encourage one another and build each other up. Remember brothers and sisters, we have the authority over our mouth, our words, and our tongue. Does the Heavenly Father still speak to His children? Brothers and sisters, it's a question that may be on your mind right now. We all have this need to know that God Almighty is still communicating with us. We crave the certainty that He hears us - and answers us. God Almighty yearns for us to listen to Him. Think about that. Here's the Almighty Creator of the Universe, pleading with His "chosen" people to hear His voice.

Brothers and sisters, have you ever sensed God Almighty saying the same thing to you personally? We all can fall out of touch with Him at times. That happens when we put ourselves in one corner and restrict God Almighty to someplace "over there" and out of the way. Then we seem to lose track of His voice in our life. And yet, though we may not hear Him, He is still talking. Quiet your spirit today. Open God's Word and invite Him to speak to you anew and then listen.

God Almighty, grant me the grace today to simply wait.

Word of the Wise. Amen.
