Lorraine Eleanor (Herdman) Barnette, 84, of Lexington, SC, formerly of Ripley, WV, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021.
She was born January 2, 1937, in Mason, WV, a daughter of the late Birdie Bennett and Alpha (Gregory) Herdman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Raymond Lee “Jim” Barnette; brothers, Herbert Herdman, Herman Herdman and sister Wanda Lee Davy.
Lorraine was a 1953 graduate of Point Pleasant High School. She was the Chairman of the Historical Society of Jackson County and was involved in the City of Ripley Counsel. Lorraine also loved being involved in various community activities and was an accomplished writer. She was a long-time member of Parchment Valley Baptist Church in Ripley until 2017 when she moved to Lexington, South Carolina and there attended the St. Peters Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her sons, Gregory Barnette and his wife, Denena of Lakeland, FL, Raymond Barnette and his wife, Susan of Proctorville, OH; daughter, Carolyn Watkins and her husband, Russell of Lexington, SC; sister, Linda Lou Burns of FL; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, ~ January 21, 2021, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with Pastor Matt Ash officiating. Burial will follow in the Creston Cemetery, Evans. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service on Thursday, at the funeral home.
