Russell Wayne “Bud” Bunner, 80, of Ravenswood, WV, departed his earthly life and entered into the presence of his Savior on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at home, following a brief illness.
He was born September 27, 1940, in Adrian, WV, a son of the late Garland Garfield and Evelyn Vergene (Hamner) Bunner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Lora (Bush) Bunner and brother in law, Ron Duncan.
He retired from Century Aluminum with 34 years of service and was a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local #5668, Ravenswood. Bud attended Second Baptist Church. He had many interests over the years, including gunsmithing; breeding beagles, custom woodworking, Purple Martins, hunting and fishing. His most rewarding hobby was supporting and spending time with his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his son, Greg Bunner of Lyman, SC; daughters, Patricia (Juan) Cardona of Cross Lanes, WV, Rebecca (Christian) Scritchfield, of Ravenswood; brothers, Hartzel (Beth) Bunner, Mark (Brenda) Bunner, Sam (Lisa) Bunner; sisters, Helen Duncan, Barbara “Tot” (Stan) Houchen, Debbie (Carl) Legg, Martha (Sam) Price; grandchildren, Megan (Matthew) Dean, Katelyn (Christopher) Taylor, Adam (Emily) Scritchfiled, Joshua Scritchfiled, Abby Scritchfiled; great-grandchildren, Hudson Dean, Norah Dean and his brother-in-law and best friend, Howard Bush.
Service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Second Baptist Church, Ravenswood, with Pastor S. Richard Parsons Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Ravenswood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, December 18, 2020, at the church and also one hour prior to the service.
Please follow the recommended guidelines as set forth by the CDC and West Virginia Governor regarding masks and social distancing. The sanctuary at Second Baptist Church is conducive to social distancing.
