Ann Carder

Ann Charlotte Carder, born on October 22, 1934 in Flemington, West Virginia, passed away after a brief illness on November 28, 2020. She lived in Ravenswood. Ann was a true beauty, inside and out. She absolutely adored and doted on her husband Richard, who passed before her in 2015. He was the love of her life. They were married for 52 years. Ann had a keen sensibility when it came to both reading and writing. In the letters she often mailed to her family and friends, her unique way of recounting the joys and tragedies of her life kept relationships connected. She was the driving force behind her Flemington High School class reunions, and was diligent in keeping her classmates in touch with one another and updated on everyone’s whereabouts and circumstances. She had a wonderful childhood. Ann loved to talk about going to her grandparents’ farm near Flemington for Christmas, riding in a horse drawn carriage, with actual sleigh bells ringing. Her father, Bob Johnson, ran a coal company store. Each year he secretly, under cover of night, transformed the shop’s top floor into a winter wonderland filled with toys, to Ann’s and his customers’ delight. Ann spoke with great joy about her early career as a teller at the Empire Bank in Clarksburg. At work, she wore high heels every single day, and took great care to be fashionably put together. She adored getting to know her clients and was keenly interested in their lives and families. She had a rare heart of gold, and a strong inner fire. She was faithful and generous. She loved her friends at church, and was a devoted member of Second Baptist in Ravenswood. She was raised in Methodist hospitality, a trait she practiced all her days. She faithfully volunteered to prepare dishes for ill members of her congregation, and was always discovering thoughtful gifts for anyone she knew needed a lift. Ann loved her two daughters, Pamela and Kimberly, with all of her heart. She will be immeasurably missed and loved forever. Service will be 10 a.m. ~ Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Second Baptist Church, Ravenswood, WV, with Jerry McCommack officiating.
