Brett Lee Slaven

Brett Lee Slaven, 63, ascended into Heaven on January 8, 2022, after a two-and-a-half year battle with cancer. He was born in Ripley, WV, on May 1, 1958.

Brett was a 1976 Ripley High School graduate and completed the Union Boilermakers Local 667 apprenticeship. After nine years as a boilermaker, Brett worked 36 years as a welder for American Electric Power (AEP). He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) and Epworth United Methodist Church, Ripley, WV.

Brett loved hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed talking on his CB radio, riding ATVs, and spending time with family, most notably, the family Labradors.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 42 years, Susan E. Slaven; son, Brandon Slaven (Brooke Henderson); daughter, Meghann Slaven; grandchildren, Chloe Slaven, Avery Slaven, and Roran Henderson; brother, Chet Slaven (Susan C. Slaven); nephew, Zachary Slaven (Victoria Slaven); great-nephew, Mason Slaven, and cherished by numerous extended family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ernest Lee and Nancy Lee Slaven.

A private family burial service will be held at the family farm in Cottageville.
