Ravenswood - Deborah Jean (Compston) Gump, 64, of Ravenswood, WV, passed away Friday, November 12, 2021 in J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV, following a brief illness.

She was born August 4, 1957, in Ravenswood, WV, a daughter of the late Blair and Goldie (Clem) Compston. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra Kay Austin; brother, Keith Compston.

She was a 1975 graduate of Ravenswood High School. She was a dispatcher for the Ravenswood Police Department for eight years. She retired with 20 years of service as an Emergency Medical Technician from the Jackson County E.M.S. She was a member, Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir at Second Baptist Church, Ravenswood, WV. Debbie enjoyed camping, beach vacations, painting and trips to the big hill in Leroy, WV.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Richard T. Gump; son, Jacob (Julia) Gump of Ripley; daughters, Candi (Alan) Frye of Whitehouse, TN and Kelly (Matt) Thompson of Ripley; brothers, Fred Compston of Benton, AR, Rick (Marilee) Compston and Ed (Jan) Compston both of Grand Rapids MI, Steve (Tinker) Compston of Madison, WV; grandchildren, Kendall, Zeke and Heather Weber, Ryleigh Frye, Jett and Sylvie Gump.

Service will be 1 p.m. ~ November 16, 2021 at Second Baptist Church, Ravenswood, WV, with Pastor S.R. Parsons Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Blaine Memorial Cemetery, Cottageville, WV. Visitation for family and close friends will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church. The family requests that all Covid-19 protocols be observed. In lieu of flowers donations are preferred to Heritage Christian Academy 300 Elwood St. Ravenswood, WV.
