Ralph “Sonny” Dimmick was born in Spencer, WV January 8, 1937.  He died April 23, 2020, from an extended illness at Alter Care of Alliance, OH.  He was 83 years old.

Sonny grew up in Spencer and was well known. He was an active member and former deacon of the Advent Christian Church. He participated in Roane County Singers and Senior Center Activities.

From Spencer he moved to Millwood in Jackson Co. where he participated in the Sheltered Workshop, and Special Olympics.  He later moved to Princeton, WV and was a volunteer at Princeton Community Hospital for several years, was active in New Hope United Methodist Church. From there he moved to Ravenswood where he joined the Silverton United Methodist Church.  He was active in the Ravenswood Senior Center.

He loved attending church and he enjoyed memorizing Bible scriptures.  He loved Gospel music and attended a variety of “sings” throughout the area.  He shared his musical talent, especially piano, which he played in church and wherever he found one.

He enjoyed bike riding and was an avid dominoes player and jigsaw puzzle enthusiast. Sonny was outgoing, had a great sense of humor, and loved people.  He will be remembered for his faith in Jesus, his humble attitude, and his winning smile.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Eugene Dimmick, his mother Bessie LeMasters Dimmick Snodgrass, his step-father Garvin Snodgrass, two brothers Creaver Dimmick and Paul Dimmick, his two sisters Frances Carper and Pauline Jarvis French.  Survivors include nephews David Carper (Rose Ann) and Noble Carper (Mary), and nieces Pauletta “Tootie” Quinn (Kenny) and Annette Carper.

He had several great nieces and nephews to five generations who all loved him.  Special friends include Pam and Kevin Davis of Ripley.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.  Arrangements are being handled by Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood, WV.  Memorial gifts may be sent to The Advent Christian Church, Spencer, WV or to Silverton United Methodist Church, Silverton, WV.
