On Wednesday, April 8, 2020, Beverly Ann Shatto, loving mother of four children, passed away at the age of 59 in Ripley, WV.

Beverly was born on July 22, 1960 in Morgantown, WV to Richard and Emma Jean (Cunningham) Barnard. Prior to her post graduate studies, Beverly was a foreign exchange student in New Zealand. She received a Bachelor and Master of Arts in Social Studies and Secondary Education from Marshall University in 1983 and a Certification of Educational Leadership & Administration from Salem International University in the 2000s. Beverly was an educator and administrator in the West Virginia public school system for over 30 years, and most recently served as the principal at Ripley High School. Ripley High School was her second home. She invested much of her life and the majority of her career on that campus - teaching, mentoring, guiding, leading and loving with pride.

Beverly had a passion for serving others and both her personal and professional life were truly reflective of that. She was an active member in the Calvary United Methodist Church in Ripley, taught aerobics and especially enjoyed playing tennis. Her tennis highlights included the Mother/Daughter Doubles at the Public Courts tournament in Charleston, WV, a National Championship in Palm Springs, CA, and countless others. Her greatest joys were spending time with her children and her grandchildren. Beverly was known for her kind, compassionate spirit and contagious smile. If you had the pleasure of crossing her path, you were a better person because of it.

Beverly is preceded in death by her mother, Emma Jean Barnard, and brother, Rick Barnard, and husband, Keith Shatto. She is survived by members of her loving family including her father, Richard (Caron) Barnard of Pennsboro, WV; four children, Morgan Lee of Atlanta, GA; Justin (Kathleen) Weekley of Charleston, WV; Arin Shatto of Morgantown, WV; and Ryan Shatto of Morgantown, WV; three grandchildren, Gabriel (Morgan), Harrison (Justin) and Ethan (Justin); a brother Gary (Barbara) Barnard of Goldtown, WV, a sister, Pam (Jeff) Middleton of Parkersburg, WV; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the community for their outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Beverly Shatto Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o the Jackson County Community Foundation, at 108 North Church Street, Ripley, WV, 25271.

At this time dates and times for a memorial service to celebrate Beverly’s life are still pending.
