Wilbert Dexter Casto, 93, of Leon, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, in Eldercare of Ripley.
He was born March 12, 1926, in Belgrove, WV, a son of the late Artist Lee and Martha Matilda (Fields) Casto. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Helen Casto; brothers, Oda Lee Casto, Delbert Theodore Casto, Clida Ray Casto; sisters, Orley Marie Donohew and Mae Casto.
Wilbert was a machinist with Bailey Meter Company in Columbus, OH from 1966-1977. He then moved to Jackson County and worked for the Green Hills Golf Course until the time of his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the Creston Church in Evans and enjoyed fishing and deer hunting with his HNR 16 gauge. In his youth, he enjoyed singing in church with his sisters. Wilbert’s number one hobby was singing the old gospel hymns, and he had them all memorized.
Survivors include his sons, Oda Casto of Alabama, Dexter H. Casto of Ohio; sisters, Evalina Young of Ripley, Lilly Smith of Barboursville; grandchildren, Dexter W. Casto, Diane L. Casto Moates, Thomas Casto, Jeffrey Stehle and six great grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with Mike Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Tabor Cemetery, Leon. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service on Saturday, at the funeral home.
