Michael Watts Ludwig, 62 of Washington, WV, formerly of Ripley, passed away July 13, 2019 from injuries received in an auto accident.
Mike was born April 24, 1957 in Houston, TX, a son of the late Max R. and Margaret “Peggy” Watts Ludwig. He was a 1975 graduate of Ripley High School where he excelled in Basketball, Baseball and Golf. He was a First Team All-State selection in Basketball and led the State in Scoring during the 1974-75 season. He averaged 30 points per game during an era before the three point line. Mike was chosen to a team representing West Virginia in the Jerry West Classic where they competed against the Russian National Team. He attended West Virginia Wesleyan College on a Basketball Scholarship and graduated from West Virginia University. He was very active in youth sports as a coach and gave back to the community helping many young people develop as athletes.
He is survived by his daughter, Allison (Steve) O’Bryan and his son Tyler Ludwig; grandson Roman O’Bryan; Brother Scott (Trisha) Ludwig; the mother of his children, Jill Sheppard Ludwig: nephew Brooks (Shayla) Ludwig: Uncle Bob Ludwig along with cousins Steve (Vikki) Ludwig, Paul Ludwig, Matt (Valerie)Ludwig and Kelley Matusic.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the Epworth United Methodist Church, Ripley with Pastor Steve Gedon and Rev. Dr. Ford Price officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley. Friends may call on the family on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 4 to 8 pm at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Wednesday.
