Alice Gertrude Barnette born August 5, 1929, went to be with the Lord after a long illness on June 13, 2019.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alva (John) Barnette.

She is survived by daughters Tammy (Troy) Toney and Mary (Don) Jett all of Given; grandchildren Chris Lawrence, Jennifer Lawrence, Christina Paynter, Karissa Cox and Steven Toney and 12 great grandkids.

Alice, often referred to as “Granny Gert” was a longtime member of the Grasslick Baptist Church where she served as a Children’s Director, Choir member as well as started the first Cub Scout Troop.

Alice loved life and spent her time living to the fullest. Her children, grandkids and great grandkids were her world. She loved them with everything she had and they in return loved her. Alice was kind, caring and loving, she will be greatly missed.

Our family would like to give special mention to Myra Watts for all the hours of fun and enjoyment the two of you shared; and to Stephanie Burgess and Sharon Ellis, her Hospice Nurses, for their kindness, compassion and always being by her side.

Alice had a wonderful life, and thank you to those who made it so!

Please help us in celebrating her life as we gather from 6 to 8 pm on Monday at the Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley for a time of visitation. Her Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday at the Waybright Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Bolen officiating. Burial will follow in the Creston Cemetery, Leon.

Goodbye Mom, Granny Gert and dear friend. Until we meet again.
