Orville Ray “Sonny” Sayre, 80, of Ripley, WV, went home to be with the Lord, while surrounded by his family, April 22, 2019, in the Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, following an extended illness.

He was born December 16, 1938, on Grandview Ridge, the son of the late, Russell E. and Laura Mildred (Hayes) Sayre.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Anna Lou “Ann” (Hall) Sayre and his sister, Mary Lou Westfall.

He was a retired mechanic from Century Aluminum with 27 ½ years of service and former member of the United States Army Reserve. He loved his family, farming, operating his construction equipment, hunting and coaching baseball. 

Survivors include his children, Lori Schuller (George) of Brisbane, Australia, Tammy Banks (Sean) of Ripley, and James Sayre (fiancée, Betsy) of Kenna; grandchildren, Ian (Alex) Banks of Ripley, Trae Schuller (fiancée, Hailey James ) of Scottsdale,  AZ,  Callan Banks of Ripley, Jala and Jaden Sayre of Ravenswood and future grandchildren, Hunter, Mason, and Aubrey Stephens of Kenna; great granddaughter, Harper Banks; brother, Fred R. Sayre and sister, Bertha May Casto.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with the Pastor David Fields officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Given. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Hubbard Hospice House for the care he received and Dr. Nathan Hale and the staff of CAMC Memorial.
