James Robert Carmichael, 72, of Ravenswood, WV, passed away April 23, 2019 in Parkersburg Care Center following a brief illness.

He was born April 12, 1947 in Ravenswood, WV, a son of the late David Lee Carmichael and Loretta Mae (Mitchell) Carmichael. His sister, Janet Hall also preceded him in death.

Jim was a 1965 graduate of Ravenswood High School and a 1967 graduate of Mountain State College.  He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam with the 4th infantry. He was a former employee of United Parcel Service (U.P.S.) with 10 years of service, Parkersburg, WV and was retired with 23 years of service from Nashua Photo, Parkersburg. He enjoyed his seeing all his U.P.S. buddies at their monthly breakfast and the Class of 1965 luncheons and friends at The Dawg Pound. He enjoyed dirt track racing where he made many friends but no money. He was a 2018 W.V. auto Racing Historical Preservation Award recipient. 

Jim was proud to have entered cars in the Knoxville-Iowa Nationals in 1975 and the Chili Bowl with Nick Spendel driving for him in Tulsa, OK.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Kathy L. (Morgan) Carmichael; sons, Kyle M. Carmichael and Amber of Ravenswood and Alex J. Carmichael of Sandyville; daughter, Toni L. Carmichael and Jacob of Ravenswood; brother, Steve Carmichael and Rhonda of Owensboro, KY; grandchildren Jerrick Hulse, Kylie and Kendell Brown, Aries Wilson and one on the way, Kalalena Carmichael.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. ~ Saturday, April 27, 2019 in the Drift Run Cemetery, Sandyville, WV, with Pastor Randy Mitchell officiating. Arrangements provided by Casto Funeral Home, Ravenswood, WV. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting castofuneralhome.com.
