Eugene “Gene” Bennett, 90, of the Evergreen Hills community, Cottageville, WV, passed away April 7, 2019, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born April 16, 1929, in Richwood, WV, the son of the late Carl Vance and Dora Mae (Hewitt) Bennett. In addition to his parents, his sisters, Naomi Cale, Norma McClead and brothers, Darrell, Paul Darius, Charles, Don and Alton, also preceded him in death.

Gene was a United States Army Korean War era veteran and a retired mill operator from Kaiser Aluminum. Following his retirement he enjoyed woodworking and making crafts. He was an active member of the Second Baptist Church, Ravenswood, where he served in several duties, including deacon, Sunday school teacher and member of the choir.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Gladys Maxine (Pickens) Bennett; son, Duane Bennett (Barb) of Parkersburg; daughter, Kim Ervin (Wayne) of Washington; brother, Leon Bennett of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Candice Bennett, Alex Bennett, Benjamin Ervin (Andi) and Leanne Lutz (Rick) and 10 great grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at the Second Baptist Church, Ravenswood, with Pastor S.R. Parsons, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Ravenswood Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Jackson County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church.
