Erna Mae “Johnny” Jones, 92 years old, of Sissonville, WV, went home on Monday March 4, with her loving family holding her hand.
Johnny, as she was known, was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Jones, two sons, Carroll and David, and one grandson, Michael. Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Doris Asbury (Ray), Joyce Ashby, both of Liberty, WV, Carolyn Sue Fleming, Dickson, Tennessee, Belinda Withrow (Randy) Charleston, WV; and son, Mike (Jenny) of Sandyville, WV, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
She was a Christian and a member of Allens Fork Community Church, a life-long homemaker, babysitter, master quilter, crafter, master gardener, and she so enjoyed canning the harvest from her gardens, sometimes canning 1,000 jars of food.
Johnny previously served as an associate conservation district supervisor for the Capitol Conservation District, was a member of the Liberty Lions Club, stirring apple butter with them since the first kettle in the 1970s, the Sissonville Women’s Club, and the Allens Fork Community Church Stitching Sisters quilting club. She sang alto in the church choir and she sang most of her life with her daughters, in the Jones Family gospel group.
The family offers heartfelt gratitude to the Genesis Cedar Ridge Health Center, Sissonville, for their professional assistance and loving care of our Mother in her last days. All who met her quickly fell in love with her sweet spirit.
