Emma Jean McClure, 81, of Cottageville, WV, passed away February 26, 2019, at her home following a brief illness.
She was born May 15, 1937, in Ashe County, NC, the daughter of the late Clinton George and Viola Minnie (Ham) Farmer. In addition to her parents, her son, Stan McClure; daughter, Cynthia Martin and sisters, Hazel Zahrndt and Louise Farmer also preceded her in death.
Emma Jean was a stay-at-home-mom and then, entered the workforce as a secretary for the Jackson County Board of Education. She began her career at Mount Alto Elementary and would later transfer and work at Cottageville Elementary School for 26 years. She was a former member of the Evergreen Hills Home Women’s Club and an active member of the Millwood United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed cross-stitching, attending church, playing “dice” and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, H. Eugene McClure; son, Steve McClure (Leshia) of Cottageville; sister, Blanche Carmichael of Ravenswood; grandchildren, Ashley Talbott (Cameron), Joshua McClure (Diane), Shelly McClure (Britney), Sheena Franklin (Tyler), Casandra Hannigan and Brittany Myers (Chris); 11 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sharon McClure of Parkersburg; special brother-in-law, Charles McClure (Jeanette) and several nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2019, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with Pastor Vera Archer officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville, WV. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service on Friday, at the funeral home.
