William (Bill) Stirling Doyle, age 87, passed away peacefully on February 19th 2019.
He was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 1931, to Gerald Christopher Doyle and Helen Odeal (Stirling) Doyle. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Ann Louise West Doyle, his children, Michael Vincent Doyle, William Stirling Doyle, Jr., Margaret Elizabeth Doyle and Timothy Alan Doyle.
Bill is survived by his sons, Dan (Vicky Shears) Doyle of Morgantown and Ron (Susie) Doyle of Raleigh, NC; and grandchildren Ben, Sam, Mike and Meg.
Bill joined the US Army after high school and served proudly in the Korean War where he served in A Company, 35th Infantry, 25th Division. He was in the Infantry on the front lines, moving all the way up to the Chinese border. His company commander in Korea was Captain Sidney Berry, later Lieutenant General and Commandant at West Point in the 1970s. Bill earned Korean War medal, combat infantry badge, three purple hearts, 2 Presidential unit citations with clusters, one silver service star and one bronze service star. In addition to his purple hearts, he also suffered severe frostbite in his hands and feet.
Bill joined Kaiser Aluminum in 1958 and retired in 1992, serving as USWA Local 5668 Union vice-president and safety chairman. He spent his retirement traveling the country with his wife, hunting, fishing and teaching his grandchildren to do the same. He served as Post Commander of VFW Ravenswood Post No 6669. He was an avid fan of WVU football and basketball and Ravenswood High basketball. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and many close friends and sharing his wonderful stories.
Family will receive friends at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Friday, February 22, 2019. A service and Rosary will begin at 6:00 pm with Father Pen officiating. The Jackson County Honor Guard will pay their respects to Mr. Doyle at the beginning of the service.
A graveside service with full military rites conducted by AMVETS Post 103 from Hopwood, PA, will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 1:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Chalk Hill, PA.
