Gerald Ray “Jack” Bailes, 89, of the Evergreen Hills Community, Cottageville, WV, passed away February 13, 2019 at his home following an extended illness.
He was born May 30, 1929, in Quinwood, WV, the son of the late Lawrence E. and Eva Virginia (Odell) Bailes. In addition to his parents, his brother, Bob Bailes, his twin sister, Geraldine Amick and sister, Lelia Dooley also preceded him in death.
Jack was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War era, was retired from Ravenswood Aluminum and a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local 5668. He and his wife Anna enjoyed pulling their 5th wheeler and camping throughout the United States and Mexico. He enjoyed playing Domino’s and Rook, and was a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church, Ravenswood.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Anna Lorene (Groves) Bailes; son, Gregory Bailes of Cottageville; daughter, Ramona B. Epperly (Richard) of Huntington; grandchildren, Julie Bailes, Jeana Bailes and Dustin Epperly (Courtney); great grandchildren, Levi, Katy and Jon; brother, Bill Bailes of Hurricane; sisters, Arlene Wiseman of Evans and Linda Willis (Burl) of Summersville; and many nieces and nephews.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2019, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with Pastor Toby Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville, with military honors provided by the Jackson County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
