After a courageous 4-year 7-month battle with Pleural Mesothelioma, Thomas Ray Allen, age 77, of Bluff City, TN, formerly of New Martinsville, WV, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2018 at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Tom was born May 2, 1941 the son of the late Doniver M. and Marjorie Roush Allen of Ravenswood, WV and was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Seymour. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, member of Masonic Lodge 39 New Martinsville, Tyler County Shrine, and the New Martinsville Moose 931. He was a retired employee of Bayer Corporation. Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman, mentoring many others who shared a passion for the outdoors as he did. He enjoyed spending time with family, as well as his Fish Camp and Bear Camp buddies. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Phyllis “Suzy” Harper Allen; daughters Katrina (Thad) Rowland of Goose Creek, SC, Melissa (Jeff) Hall of Bristol, TN and son Tommy Allen (Angy Helmick) of Williamstown, WV. Tom is also survived by his grandchildren Stephenie (Kevin) Chester, Kayla Cox, Jessa & Parker Hall, Amber & Laurel Allen, and great-grandson Kevin Chester. His brother Ron (Tammy) Allen of St. Marys, WV and his sister Donna Smith of Ravenswood, WV, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews.
Tom graciously donated his body to the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD for Mesothelioma research to benefit other patients down the road, so his legacy will live on. A private celebration of Tom’s life will be held for the family at a later date.
