Mary Jane Barnette, 78, of Ripley passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Camden Clark Medical Center following an extended illness.
She was born on October 9, 1940 on Jim Ridge, a daughter of the late Jesse Austin and Linnie Bell Hill Carney. She was one of ten children raised on the family farm on Jim Ridge. She loved caring for animals and her mothers many flowers, especially her red roses. She continued her love of animals by caring for her beloved pets, Bonnie Sue and Tinkerbell. Mary was a beloved wife and mother who enjoyed quilting and sewing as well as a love of music. She graduated from Ripley High School in 1958. She was a Methodist by faith and attended Moss Chapel Church as well as several other churches throughout the years. Although she struggled with illness she always loved life, laughter, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Beth Wensil (Sam) of Ripley; twin brother Willard W. Carney of Millwood; sisters Betty Carney of Given and Willa Jean Holderman of Louisville, OH. She is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Barnette; brothers D.H. “Harold” Carney, Darrell Carney, Basil Carney, and R.D. Carney; Sisters Velmada Williams and Blondena Carney.

Funeral service will be 12 p.m. Thursday, December 6th at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and an hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in the Moss Chapel Cemetery, Jim Ridge Road, Given.
