John T. Hoffman, 70, of Ripley died on Saturday, October 27th, at his home following an extended illness.  John was born on July 22, 1948, the son of Donald M. and Helen (Weser) Hoffman.  A graduate of Parkersburg High School with the class of 1966, he received his Bachelors Degree from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1970. 

John worked as a Scout Executive with the Boy Scouts of America serving various councils located in Parkersburg; Evansville, Indiana; Mansfield, Ohio; Gloversville, New York; and DuBois, Pennsylvania.  In later years, he continued his service to the community working with Parkersburg Arts Bridge. 

John was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Ripley, a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International, past President of Rotary in DuBois, PA, and the Captain James Neal Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. 

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Julia (Kesterson), his daughters, Katie (John) Monroe of Charleston and Krista (Stephen) Hartley of Evans.  Grandchildren are Max and Amelia Monroe and Ava and Aliza Bratton, his mother, Helen Hoffman of Vincent, Ohio, brother Donald M. (Elaine) Hoffman, Jr. of Vincent, Ohio, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald M. Hoffman, Sr. 

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 31st at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Rev. Dr. Ford Price officiating.  Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg.   Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 31st, at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of John to Epworth United Methodist Church in Ripley or the Jackson County Community Foundation in Ripley.
