Margaret Ann Arnold, 93, of Ravenswood, WV passed away October 9, 2018 at Brookdale at Marietta, Marietta, Ohio.  She was born January 4, 1925, in Chattaroy, WV, the daughter of the late Rena Minto Mulkey and Ralph H. Mulkey.

Margaret graduated from Welch High School in 1943, and then attended Berea College, Berea, Kentucky.  She received a Bachelor’s Degree from Morris Harvey College (now University of Charleston) and a Master’s Degree from Marshall University, Huntington, WV. 

Margaret lived in the mining community of Capels, near Welch, in McDowell County, WV, until moving to Ravenswood, WV in 1958.  She worked as a United States postmaster for 4 years at Capels, WV, and then was a school teacher for 28 years.  She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in McDowell County, taught 7 years at the Ravenswood Grade and Junior High School, and 20 years at Ravenswood High School.

She was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church, most recently at North United Methodist in Ravenswood, having served as Financial Secretary, President of the United Methodist Women, and was a Sunday school teacher in the Capels and Ravenswood churches for over 60 years.  She also served on the United Methodist Women Little Kanawha District Team.

Margaret was a member of the R. Douglas Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ravenswood, and was past President of Alpha Eta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa.  She also had been Secretary of the Jackson County, WV Association of Retired School Employees.

She is survived by her son, Ralph “Hank” (Joni) Arnold, of Marietta, Ohio, grandchildren Tyler and Bethany Arnold, Nicki (Dave) Foggin, Scott (Janet) Arnold, Melissa (Chad) Dailey, Kelli (Rob) Cross, Melanie Davis, Jason Arnold, Christopher Longfellow, and her sister, Ruth Ingraham.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Malcolm Clinton Arnold, their sons, David, Jeffrey, and James, and a brother, John Herbert Mulkey.

Services for Margaret will be at 1 p.m. on October 13, 2018 at Casto Funeral Home in Ravenswood, WV, with Pastor Tom Nolan officiating. Burial will follow at the Ravenswood Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Margaret requested that memorial contributions be made to the Memorial Fund of North Ravenswood United Methodist Church, Ravenswood, WV.
