Robert Gale Wayne, 81, of Leon, WV, passed away June 20, 2018, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born March 24, 1937, in Frametown, WV, the son of the late James French and Roena Ethel (Rodgers) Wayne. In addition to his parents, his brothers, Brooks, Dennis and Charles and sisters, Evelyn McGuire and Doris Workman, also preceded him in death.
Gale was a United States Army veteran and served the nation as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a retired construction worker and member of the Laborers Union Local #543 and was a lifelong farmer.
Gale was an avid hunter and raised several champion fox and coonhounds. He loved the sport of softball and helped coach Gala, Shellie and Shaley to success in the sport. Horses have always had a large role in the Wayne family and in the latter part of his life, Gale turned his attention to the show ring. He enjoyed training gaited horses and had won several awards with his pacing horses.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley M. (Miller) Wayne; daughters, Gala Voiers (Brian) and Shellie Clegg (Justin Rich); grandchildren, Shaley Clegg, Cole Rich, Joshua, James, Mckenzie and Brianna Voiers and Kathryn Dennis, and his sister, Leo Wedge (Charles).
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with the Rev. Verlin Hart and Pastor Bradley Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow in the Creston Cemetery, Evans. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
