Margie Jacqueline Bailey, 90, of Ripley, WV, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018, after an extended illness.

Jackie was born March 14, 1928 at Hardy, WV to Hampton Hoge White and Martha Bloomie Swim White.  Her loving step father was Willie F. “Bill” Helsel of Princeton.

She married Earl Welch Bailey on December 13, 1947.  She is survived by their three daughters:  Charlotte Regina “Jeannie” Bailey Burnopp (Tom Burnopp, deceased) of Severn, MD, Pamela Lucille Bailey Shumate (Daniel Shumate) of Ravemswood, and Bloomie Yvonne Bailey Chase (Ray Chase) of Ripley.  

Jackie was a devoted mother and grandmother.  She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren and their families.  Thomas Wayne Burnopp of Florida, Kimberly Yvonne Burnopp Heward (Mike) of Maryland, Rodney Scott Burnopp of Florida, Tiffany Shirin Chase Parks (Michael) of Ripley, Tracy Matthew Chase (Samantha) of Goldtown, Tara Danelle Shumate Lee (Brandon) of Cottageville, Dana Brent Shumate (Jennifer) of North Carolina, and Pamela Regina “Tuppy” Chase of Ripley.  She has 16 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great grandchildren.  Her children and her grandchildren adored her.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  

Jackie was preceded in death by he husband, The Rev. Earl W. Bailey; her mother and father, Bill and Bloomie Helsel of Princeton; and her sister, Lucille Baker of Princeton.

Jackie was an active member and elder of the First Christian Church where she served as a member of their State Board.  Also a member of Eastern Star, Jackie served on Ripley City Council.  Perhaps her legacy however, was her teaching career of over 25 years at the First Presbyterian Church of Ripley’s Nursery School. Jackie passionately and lovingly helped teach almost 1000 preschoolers in Jackson County.  

Services will be Sunday, April 15 at Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley with visitation from 2 pm until 6 pm and a service to follow.  There will be an additional service in Princeton at Bailey - Kirk Funeral Home on Monday at 2pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Larry Roberts will be officiating (her nephew).
