Roy L Boggs, 99, of Ravenswood, WV, Flatwoods Community, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Ravenswood Village, Ravenswood.
He was born March 7, 1918 in Millwood, WV, a son of the late Albert Madison and Jane Gracen (Ankrum) Boggs. In addition to his parents he was preceded by his brothers, Walter, Charlie, Melvin, Cliff and Ed Boggs; sister, Frances Parsons.
He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Carpenters Union Local # 1159 Point Pleasant, WV. He assisted in many local construction projects, including: Jackson General Hospital, Kaiser Aluminum, and Ravenswood High School. He served in the United States Army during WWII in several battles; Algeria-French, Moroccan, Tunisian, Sicilian, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and the Rhineland, and received several medals for valor including a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Flatwoods United Methodist Church, Ravenswood, WV. He was an avid farmer, enjoyed woodworking, reading and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Georgianna Maxine (Cochran) Boggs; daughter, Crystal Lee Eubank and her husband, Mike of Ravenswood; son, Charles F. Boggs and his wife Yon of Evans, GA; granddaughter, Catherine Ann Boggs of Atlanta, GA; many special nieces and nephews; and all of the many friends and neighbors he loved as family.
Service with military rites will be 12 p.m., Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Ravenswood with Reverend Phillip Scarberry and Pastor Vera Archer officiating. Burial will follow in Flatwoods Church Cemetery, Ravenswood, WV. Visitation will be Saturday, 11 a.m.—12 p.m. at the funeral home.
