Gerald H. Dorsey, 90, of Ravenswood, WV, passed away March 1, 2018, at his home while surrounded by his family.
He was born April 28, 1927, in Swiss, WV, the son of the late Gilmer A., Sr., and Edith (Drennen) Dorsey. In addition to his parents, his son-in-law, Ron Winter, also preceded him in death.
Gerald was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, and was retired from Kaiser Aluminum with 31 years of service. He was currently a member of the Mercy Baptist Church and during his Christian walk served as Sunday school teacher, deacon, choir director and he sang in several family gospel groups. He was a former member of the Gospel Music Reunion Choir.
He was a gunsmith, an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Geraldine Marie “Gerry” (McCutcheon) Dorsey; sons and their wives, Joseph Alan and Paula Dorsey of Knoxville, TN, and Michael Lane and Sue Dorsey of Parkersburg; daughters, Donna Lynn Winter of Rock Hill, SC, and Ronda Kaye Alfred and her husband, Don of Belpre, OH: brothers, Charles “Bud” Dorsey of Ravenswood, and Gilmer Dorsey, Jr. of Cottageville; sister, Patsy Allen of Stuart, FL; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Service was 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans, WV, with Pastor Bradley Goodwin and Pastor Kevin McClung officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley, WV. Visitation was from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
