Coplin Health Systems (CHS) Diabetes Initiative is once again teaming up with the City of Ravenswood to host the fourth annual Dash for Diabetes 5k Walk/Run event. This year’s race will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at the Ravenswood Riverfront Park. Registration will begin at 8 a.m.
For the past four years, this annual race pushes for diabetes awareness by encouraging participants and onlookers to practice healthy eating and routine exercise. Throughout the year, CHS hosts several other community events and programs to shed light on the diabetes epidemic and diabetes prevention.
Each year, CHS urges Jackson County and the surrounding area to support this annual event to promote health and wellness throughout the region.
“We strive to educate the community through these events about the importance of practicing a healthy lifestyle. Many people don’t understand that Type 2 Diabetes can be prevented by healthy eating and regular daily exercise,” said Cherrie L. Cowan, NP-C, Certified Advanced Diabetes Management NP and Certified Diabetes Educator. “By hosting this annual event, we hope that the community and participants recognize that lifestyle changes can play a major role when it comes to managing and preventing the disease.”
Proceeds from the race will go to CHS Diabetes Initiative and Ravenswood Youth Sports Program to continue
the encouragement of healthy lifestyles within the community.
“The City of Ravenswood is thrilled once again to host this annual educational event where participants and attendees can learn more about diabetes and tips on how to deter the disease,” Ravenswood Mayor Josh Miller said. “Dash for Diabetes will always be welcomed in Ravenswood, and we hope that the diabetes epidemic conversations continue outside of the annual event.”
