By 8 p.m. Tuesday (Christmas Eve), everything will be ready for the delivery people to take Christmas to the families in the area who have been approved. Approximately 32 families had to be adopted for the Ravenswood Adopt-A-Family Christmas program.

Volunteers have been gathering and putting items aside for the families who have not been adopted by organizations, businesses, groups, or individuals. They are making sure that all families who have been approved will have a wonderful Christmas.

If you can spare a few hours, drop by the kitchen area at the Ravenswood Fire Station, your help will be greatly appreciated.

Volunteers will be needed Monday morning at 9 a.m.to shop for groceries for the families that the committee will be responsible for. Anyone who has a couple of hours to give can be a big help by going grocery shopping.

Additional financial support was received this week from First Federal Savings and Loan $100, S.O.A.R. $200, Milhoan Ridge Women’s Circle $100, Anonymously $100, Comet United Methodist Church $100, Anonymously $100, Silverton United Methodist Church $100, Silverton United Methodist Women’s Society $100, Anonymously $100, Pleasant View United Methodist Church $100, The Reynolds Family $200, George J. Hizer $50, Anonymously $250, First United Presbyterian Church $500, and Ravenswood High School Staff $105.

Canned food has been delivered from schools in the Ravenswood area, along with many pairs of mittens and gloves that have been collected. These generous donations provide a tremendous savings to the program.

Delivery will begin Tuesday at 8 a.m., with the longest runs being loaded first. City deliveries will begin around 9 a.m. or shortly thereafter.

Tuesday the Adopt program learned that the Army Reserves from Millwood has been deployed to the Middle East for several months and still has about three to serve in this deployment. The Adopt Program would like to thank these service men and women for their service in keeping our country safe, so that we may have the chance to spend the holidays with our families. The Reserve Unit has been a big part of our deliveries for many years and they are greatly appreciated. We will be in need of several more trucks this year.

Volunteers with four wheel drive vehicles and pickup trucks, as well as persons to help with the loading and delivery will be needed at the fire station at 8 a.m. If you would like to be a part of this segment of the Adopt Program, arrive at headquarters shortly before 8 a.m.

Many, many new toys have been donated to the Marine Corps League’s Toys for Tots Program, Ripley Adopt Program and others. This also is a tremendous savings for the program.

This past Saturday evening Mark Yencha and Tommy Crow held an Ugly Sweater dance at the Dawg Pound, with price of admission being the donation of a new toy in Memory of Dean Carter, who passed away in April 2018. About 100 new toys were delivered to the Fire Department on Wednesday. Dean’s family was very appreciative of these donations. He had worked with the Adopt Program over 50 years.

Parcels for the families that have been adopted by churches, organizations, and individuals need to be at the Ravenswood Fire Station by 7 p. m Sunday evening.

Volunteers are still needed to help with the sorting, sizing, and packaging of clothing and gifts for the families in the program. Monday volunteers began shopping for the families who have not been adopted by groups, churches or individuals. If you have a few hours to donate to a very worthwhile cause, just stop by the fire department. Your help will certainly be appreciated.

Wrapping of the gifts and sorting of food began on Tuesday with help from employees from Premier Bank, Ravenswood, and others. Grocery shopping for final items will begin Monday morning at 9 a.m., and helpers will be needed for this part of the program.
